Our Story
The Pet Portrait Studio
Welcome to the Personalised Pet Portrait studio, tucked away in a rambling barn conversion on the Cumbria fells, bordering the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We are surrounded by the most glorious mountains, green fields, and too many cows and sheep to count.
Professional artist, Frank Barron spends his days painting portraits of the nation’s pets and the surrounding wildlife, aided and abetted by his two rescue cats, Hamish and Rafa, who are always by his side, usually having a lovely sleep.
Pets are a huge part of our family and yours, to be loved when they are here, and remembered with love when they are gone. Every pet has his or her own special character and those little quirks that makes them a unique piece of the family jigsaw. Frank will capture your pet’s personality, not just the likeness, as part of the process, and making the final portrait truly special.
Frank works in oils on stretch canvas for the best possible results, ready to hang on the wall. Have a look at our pet rogues’ gallery for some examples of recent work. Commission us and Frank will bring your pet to life on canvas, creating a beautiful memory you will treasure for ever.
Only the Best
Your Pet Portrait
Your pet portrait will be painted in the studio using only the highest quality materials. To commission Frank, all you need to do is supply a suitable photograph, and tell us a little bit about your pet’s personality – very important – so that their character can be perfectly captured on canvas. That’s it. Leave the rest to Frank.
The standard portrait which works very well is an A3 head and shoulders on a plain background, but if you are looking for something different, please do get in touch. We can accommodate most requests and give you a quote for a special commission.
Testimonials
For the Love of Pets
“Thank you”
“I loved the painting of Frankie, as you know it was a present for my parents but I liked it so much that it was really hard giving it to them. I did eventually so once again thank you so much.“
Karen
“ A fabulous & flawless service”
“Every time I look at my treasured painting of Biff my beloved and much missed Boxer it brings a big smile to my face reliving the countless scrapes he always seemed to get himself into. Thanks once again for delivering a priceless memory. “
Barry
“Such a brilliant portrait”
“My lovely portrait of Otto now sits, pride of place, above my fire place for all to see and admire. Once again thank you for all your hard work and professionalism.”
Rachael
“Speechless”
“I had to contact you once again to say how well admired the portrait of Millie is with all my friends and family. You also managed to capture her personality down to a tee, thank you so much”

The Process
Once we have the photography and information we need, Frank will begin your portrait. Oils normally take 2-3 weeks to finish, partly due to the drying time needed for oil paintings.
Please have a look through all your pet photos and choose your favourite front facing head and shoulders or full body picture. If you’re not sure it’s suitable, email it through and we’ll take a look.
We need a really clear, good quality photograph so that when we increase the size of the picture to get all the detail kit doesn’t blur (300 dpi, over 1 mb).
Every pet is different so if you can, please do provide us with any additional details that might be useful. For example, your cat might love sitting on knees (like Frank’s cat Hamish), or might be totally antisocial (like his other little black cat Rafa). Maybe your dog loves going to the pub after a walk or prefers going straight home for a quiet snuggle on the sofa. Give us any information you can that reveals a bit more about your pet’s character.
Please submit your information here (link to form). Once we have received your photograph we will contact you for any further information we might need. Then Frank will start on your portrait.
